Our Team

Meet Our Whistler Vets and Clinic Support Staff:

Coast Mountain Veterinary Services has served the Whistler and Sea to Sky (Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton) communities for over 20 years.

Conveniently located in the Creekside area right across from Boston Pizza, Coast Mountain Veterinary Services offers a wide range of services from routine wellness exams and spay and neuter services to complex surgeries including orthopaedic and cruciate repair.

We feel lucky and blessed to have the following staff:

Dr. Christine Kirby, Veterinarian & Owner Whistler Vet Dr Christine Kirby

Dr. Christine Kirby graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2006.  She relocated to Pemberton (with stops in Cache Creek and Calgary) in 2009 to be with her now husband, Jonathan. It was Christine’s childhood dream to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and as a result she has spent the majority of her life (over 16 years) working in veterinary hospitals.  Christine was very excited when given the opportunity to join the Coast Mountain Veterinary team in September of 2012 to come on board as the new owner and work alongside Dr. David Lane.  When not taking care of the animals of Whistler, Christine enjoys horseback riding(with her Quarter Horse Abbey and Mya dog usually follows while Sassy the cat usually stays at home), hiking, snowboarding, and sometimes fishing with her husband…

Whistler Vet Dr David Lane

Dr. David Lane, Veterinarian

When David first moved to Whistler in 1992 he thought it would only be for a year or two. Instead, he fell in love with the region and never quite left. His interests include skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, and working on the farm with his wife, Lauren. At last count, they have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 4 horses, 8 ducks, 6 pigs, and 40 chickens. Remember to check out their farm’s website at www.eatfreerange.ca.

Dr. Lane graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1992.  David practices veterinary chiropractic medicine, and much of his caseload relates to lameness medicine and orthopaedic surgery with many clients traveling to our clinic from Vancouver and Vancouver Island to have him operate on their animals. He has devoted countless hours to the study and craft of orthopaedic surgery and we are excited to be able to offer his cruciate repair capabilities to our offered services(TTA Surgery, TPLO Surgery, Extracapsular Surgery, and Tightrope Surgery).

In 2012, after owning Coast Mountain Veterinary Services for over 20 years, David sold the clinic to Dr. Christine Kirby so he could devote more time to the study and practice of orthopaedic and chiropractic veterinary medicine.

Annie, Lead Technician

Annie is an animal health technician and technician supervisor for Coast Mountain Veterinary Services. Annie moved to Whistler in 2000, leaving behind sunny Australia and her veterinary career. Annie enjoys educating staff and clients on various aspects of animal health care and preventive medicine, and she brings a wide skill set to our patients’ care. When Annie is not at the clinic, she enjoys the outdoor sports opportunities that Whistler has to offer as well as music festivals and reminiscing about Australia. Annie, her husband, and her dog, Husky mix Jasper, had their first baby girl, Riley, in December of 2012.

Caitlin, Technician

Caitlin joined the team in March of 2014. She moved to Whistler in the Fall of 2013 to take advantage of the numerous outdoor activities the area has to offer. Caitlin worked as a veterinary nurse in Australia for over 8 years. She’s dedicated and passionate about helping all of our patients. Caitlin’s responsibilities include collecting samples for diagnostic testing, monitoring our patients under anesthesia, assisting our veterinarians during surgeries and most important, ensuring our patients go home happier and healthier.

Chandel, Receptionist

Chandel joined the Coast Mountain team in 2003 as part of her high school’s work experience program. We loved Chandel so much that she became a permanent team member in 2004, and she loves us so much that she agrees to commute to Whistler from D’A rcy. Chandel’s favourite aspects of her job include helping the animals in the community and working with the Coast Mountain team. When not at work, Chandel enjoys spending time with her family, gardening and watching movies. Chandel’s family includes her husband, Lance, son Mason, two cats named Max and Moose, and her 1 year old Shepherd cross, Bentley. Chandel and Lance just recently had a baby girl.

Jonathan Kirby, Practice Administrator

Jonathan joined the Coast Mountain team with his wife Christine when they purchased they clinic from Dr. Lane in September of 2012.  Jonathan has lived in the Whistler area since 2003 and has worked in many of the business sectors in Whistler from Civil Construction to the Customer Service/Accomodation sectors.  In 2008 he met Christine and soon convinced her to leave the wild west of Cache Creek to come live in Pemberton.

At the clinic, Jonathan is responsible for many of the behind the scenes repsonsbilities from bookkeeping and ordering to maintenance repair(He spent many late nights here painting our reception and exam rooms this winter) and other related aspects.  He also helps spread the word through facebook and newspaper advertisements on all of the services we offer and tips to keep the cats of dogs of Whistler happy and healthy!

In his spare time, he enjoys spending his time with his daughter(born in January 2013) and hiking around the Birkenhead and Squamish area rivers fishing for Steelhead and Rainbow Trout.

Jonathan is eager to hear any feedback on positive experiences you’ve had, or areas we could improve on.  Please email him: jonathan@coastvet.com  He appreciates any and all feedback so that we can strive to continually meet our clients’ and patients’ needs.
